Tilley Hats: The Best Hats for Sun Protection in Almost Any Conditions

Has the sun gotten hotter? Or are we perhaps aging and more aware of the damaging rays… we’ll leave that for you to decide but either way these hats are great for keeping you protected

We were first introduced to Tilley Hats by some members of our family who like to sail. These hats are renowned among sailors for protecting the face from hours, if not days, in the direct sun. They’re made of durable material that naturally wears in. They’re also incredibly comfortable. And if you happen to be sailing, they float on water and have a hidden compartment for stashing cash or cards.

The Tilley cotton duck hats (Iconic T1 bucket, T3 or T5) are the classic choices. You can’t go wrong with one of these, but they can get a little sweaty on a hot day, even with the venting holes.

The Tilley Airflo line has mesh panels for plenty of ventilation. It’s great for a long day of hiking or just working in the yard. The Tilley Lightweight Nylon is so light that you won’t even notice you’re wearing a hat.

We borrowed and then bought our own Tilley hats while in West Virginia. They were great for working in the field, hiking the trails or just taking it easy on the front porch.

If sun protection is your primary goal, we would highly recommend investing in a nice Tilley hat.
