Sarah, Joe Guy, Neve and Oliver (our constant four-legged companion)
Hello,
We’re Sarah & Joe Guy (yep, it’s a double first name!). Welcome to our inner (now outer) dialogue on how to make life even better! We’re a family of three with our daughter Neve, along with our scruffy pup Oliver and our tuxedo cat Edward.
We met in Michigan in 2007 and were married in 2009 after a year of long-distance dating (the adventures begin!). We have been best friends, teammates and fellow adventurers ever since!
Off to NYC!
In 2011, we moved to Manhattan in search of a simpler life – crazy, I know! We sold, got rid of, jettisoned almost all of our possessions. It was amazing how good it felt not being weighed down by the usual “stuff”! The move brought to the surface a lot of important questions, including what do we really want in life – Stuff? Experiences? Time together? Commuting?
Almost 10 years later, we’re still not quite New Yorkers, but we love our adopted city and all the escapades it brings. New York City is a city of extremes, so it’s also a wonderful place to grapple with questions like space, money, balance, power.
In Search of a Simpler Life
We still check in regularly with each other and ourselves on the simplicity meter – what can we do to stay focused on what’s truly important in life? We’re not looking to leave the country or unplug from society. We have no aspirations to become monks on the side of a mountain.
Our ultimate goal is to have richer, more fulfilled lives wherever we are now and wherever the next chapter takes us. We hope this blog will be a good forum to think things through together. We welcome you to join us in this continued journey.
The Mountains Call
In March 2020, our lives also took a dramatic turn as the U.S. came to grips with the COVID-19 pandemic. With our city coming to a screeching halt, we took a deep breath and thought, “Can we find any silver lining in this situation?” It came in the form of a phone call asking us to come to West Virginia for a bit…. and so we waded in.
