We realized the biggest flaw of our camper quarters just a few nights into our stay in West Virginia – the mattress. It was clear that there was no way we were going to make it a few weeks, much less four months, sleeping on the original mattress.
The original mattress was so thin that we could feel the plywood board beneath us. We weren’t sleeping well, and we woke up with sore backs.
We had a dilemma, though. We needed a quality mattress that wouldn’t break the bank. We weren’t hauling a mattress back to New York City. We also needed one that could be shipped to us. We had no way to get one back from a store, and in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, we really didn’t want to be shopping in stores anyway.

We can’t say enough good things about this mattress. Our first night of sleep was heavenly. And this is coming from a couple who sleeps at home on a nearly $2,000 Serta iComfort king-size mattress. We love our Serta iComfort. In fact, we originally had a more expensive Tempurpedic but sent it back after 90 days to get the Serta iComfort.
The Zinus was amazingly close in comfort. It was slightly more soft and mushy. If you like a firm bed, Zinus might not be best for you. But the difference between our Zinus and Serta iComfort was negligible. We’re honestly not sure if we could tell the difference.
The Zinus provided a nice comfortable sleep with just the right amount of give. It cradled you without creating a huge crater.
It also was easy to set up. When we opened the box, it unfurled and plumped up to full size in less than two days. There were no noticeable fumes or odors. It was so worth the investment.
We were extremely pleased with this upgrade for our West Virginia camper, and if we have to get another mattress for home, we would gladly order up another Zinus mattress.
We also want to give a shout-out to Sleepolis, a mattress review website. We looked at several review sites before going with Zinus. Sleepolis was by far the best. It had great videos and ratings, including a detailed mapping on support for the body.
It’s always hard to buy a mattress based on laying on them in the store. Sleepolis provides the best rating system for helping you make the right choice.
